Adult Education

Adult Education classes are held between the 9:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. services at 10:15 a.m. A variety of topics and guest speakers are presented followed by questions and answer sessions. Topics are determined according to the interests and needs of the congregation. These classes are designed to open your mind to the complexity and depth of religious issues.

ADULT SPIRITUAL FORMATION
10:15-11:00 a.m.

The word January is derived from the word Janus, the Roman god with two faces – one looking backward and one looking forward.

The series of adult education January 17, 24, and 31 along with the first Sunday in February will take a brief look back at our congregational identity, focus a bit on we are, and suggest where we might be going from here.

As a congregation we are at an exciting time of transition in the midst of a revolutionary world. We have much to build on with a multiplicity of gifts within our church. We have vast opportunities beckoning within our congregation and in terms the world outside the congregation.

William Jennings Bryan noted “Destiny is not a matter of chance; but a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, It is a thing to be achieved.” What choices should St. James be making for our destiny in the service of God's kingdom? What might we achieve? As Jesus said in Luke 17:21 “The Kingdom of God is within you.” That kingdom is in each of us and in St. James as a congregation – both in the finite moment of now and in the infinite present tense.

This series of adult education is intended to challenge us individually and as a congregation to meet the opportunities that God has given us – to realize the divine kingdom “in that which we “move, and live, and have our being” (Acts 17:28). Infinite love is in us and around us. Let us be bearers of that love, the Christ's spirit made flesh. Let us see and be the face of Jesus everywhere.
