Rector |
Mother Dawn Frankfurt has an interesting background. She has had two careers and has lived in many places. She is from our part of the world. Mother Dawn grew up in Oklahoma City and Edmond, OK. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English at Oklahoma University and undertook a career in marketing after a few years of graduate study in creative writing. In a dozen years as a marketing professional, she held positions in Oklahoma City; Wilmington, NC and Honolulu, HI.
The only thing important enough to take her away from the paradise of island life was her call to ordained ministry in the Episcopal Church. Ten years ago, she was sponsored by the Diocese of Hawaii and attended the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale for seminary training. There she served two parishes in Connecticut: Christ Church Tashua in Trumbull and The Church of the Holy Trinity in Middletown. Historic Trinity Church, in Staunton, VA, was her first church home and where she was ordained to the priesthood. She served Trinity as Associate Rector for three years and stayed to serve as Interim Rector for another year before returning to Oklahoma to be close to family.
Mother Dawn has led two congregations in Oklahoma; she served as interim rector at St. Philip’s in Ardmore, and subsequently as interim rector at All Saints’ in Duncan. Her education, her years of experience leading Episcopal congregations, and her history as a business professional, combine to make her particularly well qualified to join us as Rector of St. James.

Tony Clark -- In my weekday job I teach at Friends University. I arrived in the United States with my wife and family for the spring semester of 2007 to teach ethics, philosophy, and theology. We came to Wichita from the university town of St. Andrews in Scotland. It was there that I had undertaken my doctoral studies in the School of Divinity, and taught for a year after their completion.
Before embarking on my doctorate, I spent 12 years in full-time ministry as priest in the Church of England. During those years I served in two parish churches; one near Manchester and the other in the Diocese of Oxford. I also served as a chaplain; first to the Lee Abbey Community - a retreat and conference center located on the beautiful coastline of North Devon – and then to the University of Westminster - a huge institution located in the heart of central London. I trained for the ordained ministry at Wycliffe Hall in Oxford. In 1988, towards the end of my three years at theological college (as the Church of England likes to call them), I spent a semester on an exchange program with St. Paul's Theological College in Grahamstown, South Africa. One of the many wonderful students I met there was Thabo Makgoba, who visited St. James on Palm Sunday.
My wife, Antonia, and I first came to know St. James through the beautiful 5:30 p.m. Celtic Service, which we started to attend some two years ago. In getting to know Former Rector Mother Kate Moorehead it soon came to light that I was an Anglican priest, and since then I have been honored to have a part in the leading of worship in the church. I am delighted that this role is now being formalized and I look forward to a growing involvement in this vibrant and welcoming community. |
