Confirmation

Confirmation is a mature public affirmation of faith and commitment to the responsibilities of Baptism. It is an important Sacrament in the church, in which an adult makes a commitment to be apart of the Episcopal Church. Confirmation itself happens when the bishop lays his hands on a person and says a prayer. The Rt. Rev. Dean Wolfe visits St. James annually to confirm new Episcopalians. Those who are interested in being confirmed prepare by taking our Basic A (basic anglicanism) class or some such equivalent as arranged by the clergy. Many lifelong Episcopalians choose to take this class to reaffirm their faith. For more information, contact Deedee Evans.

CONFIRMATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE

Confirmation happens when a young person is approximately 16 years old. They become adults in the church at age 16 with all of the privileges and responsibilities. They are also cognitively more able to understand and proclaim their faith at this age.

If your teen is going to be a 9th, 10th, or 11th grader in the fall, and don't already do so, they just need to start coming to class at 10:15 a.m. on Sundays. If they are a senior in high school this fall and they wish to be confirmed when the Bishop comes in November, they can contact our youth minister or Mother Kate to make arrangements to attend the Basic A class.
