Dear Friends,

The St. James Youth, together with 4 adults chaperones, will set out on a Pilgrimage to Rome Italy on Saturday June 2nd. Pilgrimage is a formation experience that began 2 years ago when a small group of kids started to dream about where they could go to discover “Holy stuff”. Through these two years this parish supported and taught them some very important lessons. The youth have learned how to set an a.m.bitious goal and then how to achieve it. They have learned how to work together, pray together, support each other, and think creatively For many of us 2 years doesn’t seem to be a very long time, but to a ninth grader that is an eternity. We did endless work projects and continual fund raising events. As we met last night for one of the last times before we leave, there was a change that could already be seen in the teens. They were quieter. There was a sense of awe. We were on our way!

I want to thank you all for the difference each one of you has made. Together we have raised $43,000! Parents have contributed well beyond the minimum dollar a.m.ounts required. They have also spent countless hours of driving, waiting, supervising, hauling cookie dough, organizing, and cooking. We want to thank the Trust for the $7,500 grant they awarded the youth. The pilgrims have spent an enormous number of hours doing just about anything: from working the book sale, Oyster dinner, Festival of Saints, to cleaning garages, hauling, picking up trash, cleaning gutters, and tons of yard work. This parish has really come together in supporting this little dedicated band of youth. We could not have done it without you! Please keep us in your prayers each day as we set out on our journey.

In Christ’s love,
Teresa Rogers, Director of Youth Ministries

Christian Stewardship
Christian stewardship is grateful and responsible use of God's gifts in the light of God's purpose as revealed in Jesus Christ.
Christian stewards, empowered by the Holy Spirit, commit themselves to conscious, purposeful decisions.

Stewardship is lived out in:
Living and telling the Good News;
Sharing with God in seeking justice, peace, and the integrity of creation in an interdependent universe;
Wisely employing God-given human resources, abilities, and relationships;
Sharing the material resources we hold and giving them in service, justice, and compassion;
Providing for future generations;
Sharing in the life, worship, and responsible stewardship of the Church and of its mission.

"Both for the individual and for the community, stewardship is a joyful act for the sake of God's world."
-Standing Rules of the Ecumenical Stewardship Center

The Episcopal Church is a founding member of this group and remains active in its continuing work.

Construction Update
The project is in high gear and can be seen in many areas at various stages of completion. Much of the heavy dust creating work is over.

Next week we will see the completion of the hall floor and we will be able to walk on it and use the Lounge and bathrooms. No foot traffic will be allowed until Sunday June 1st.

The plastic wall in the hall and stairway will be removed Monday June 2nd.

Tuesday June 3rd the Lounge will be cleared out and ready for use again.

The ceiling beams are being installed and soon the new ceiling light fixtures will be mounted between the beams.

The footings and walls for the storage room will be completed.

The excavation for the playground will be completed and the footings and walls will then be constructed.

Patience is the word for the repair and resurfacing of the north entryway to the parking lot It will be resurfaced and the large hole filled in that is in the parking lot just as soon as the construction on the north side is completed.

The kitchen cabinets are all in place and the area is really beginning to look like a kitchen with ovens, cook tops and sinks in place. The finish of the cabinets has been assigned and the staining and sealing will begin next week.

The floor and wall tile is in place and the grouting will be finished next week.

The steel framing on the south side of the Guild Hall will continue.

Soon we should be able to easily see the progress just by walking down the hallway and looking into the new entryway into the kitchen and the Guild Hall.

Kitchen cabinets in place on May 29th

The date has been set and tickets will soon go on sale for “Building on Hope,” a dinner and dance to benefit Episcopal Social Services Venture House, scheduled for July 13th at the Wichita Scottish Rite Center. Plan now to dance the night away while you help ESS raise much needed support.

Your generosity will help those that are unemployed and the working poor, the broken, and the friendless. You can help the most needy in the Wichita area through programs that are funded by donors like you.

Please help by buying tickets, especially a table of eight or ten, and invite your friends.

There will be silent auction items, as well as workshops that were such a hit last year, and a cash bar. Bring your wallet and plan to have a wonderful evening.

Call Episcopal Social Services Venture House at 316-269-4160

Basic Angelicism
Basic A, our class for newcomers, begins on Wednesday, June 4th and will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m..
It will be held in the Lounge and taught by Kate Moorehead.

Come and learn about what it means to be an Episcopalian. How do we read the Bible? Why do we do all those strange things during worship? How do you use the Book of Common Prayer? These are some of the many questions we will be addressing.

Nursery is provided.
