The St. James After School program ended its third year with a lot of smiles during a pizza party at Chuck E. Cheese for our group of Jefferson School fourth and fifth graders. The kids had a great time and we wish them all the best during the summer months.
This summer will be a busy time for those of us on the St. James After School Program board. We are working to restructure and improve the program in a number of ways. During the past year, we have heard from a number of people in the parish and other supporters who have given us good, constructive feedback. We have processed that feedback and agreed upon ways to cut our costs and increase efficiency so we can continue to offer a quality program to low-income children, at no cost to their families.
Starting this fall, we aim to serve twice the number of children at a fraction of what our program has averaged in costs these past three years. Our plan is to hire two part-time staffers to replace the full-time and half-time positions that were created when the program began. The program will run four days a week instead of five, serving children from Jefferson on Mondays and Wednesdays, and children from Lincoln Elementary on Tuesday and Thursdays. We plan to recruit a core group of volunteers and also to work with community organizations such as Arts Partners and Roots & Shoots to provide creative enrichment for the children.
Please consider whether you have talent or expertise to share with the children during the next school year, even for just an afternoon or two. Think what experiences you can bring to make a difference in these children’s lives. And please consider donating to the program, especially now that we are working to ensure that your donations will stretch farther and do more good than ever before.
The After School Program does not rely on support from the church’s general fund. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization separate from the church, though the program offers a path for all of us in this parish to reach out to the greater community. The main support for our program has always come from individuals in the St. James community, and from the St. James Trust. We ask that you please continue to pray for and support this wonderful program.
Thank you.

Construction Update
Next week you will see the completion of the new hall slate floor that will visually tie the Hallway, Lounge and Guild Hall together as a continuation of the Bride’s Hall.
As of Monday June 3rd the Lounge, Deedee’s office and the restrooms will be available.
The rain will surely give way to sunny skies and the outdoor work will change from bailing out the work areas to construction.
Work will continue on the walls for the extended storage room and the Guild Hall expansion on the south. The steel beams and roof will be installed and then the area can be enclosed and allow the slate tile floor to be installed.
Staining of the kitchen cabinets will begin and the granite counter tops should arrive and be placed on the cabinets.
Staining and placement of the ceiling beams in the Guild Hall will continue.
Playground equipment and the base material for the playground are being researched and will be chosen soon.
All the mechanical work (heating and air conditioning) is now complete.
As each part of the project is completed you will begin to visually see the Church, Lounge and the Guild Hall become one.

Dancing with the Stars - Wichita
The date has been set and tickets will soon go on sale for “Building on Hope,” a dinner and dance to benefit Episcopal Social Services Venture House, scheduled for July 13th at the Wichita Scottish Rite Center. Plan now to dance the night away while you help ESS raise much needed support.
Your generosity will help those that are unemployed and the working poor, the broken, and the friendless. You can help the most needy in the Wichita area through programs that are funded by donors like you.
Please help by buying tickets, especially a table of eight or ten, and invite your friends.
There will be silent auction items, as well as workshops that were such a hit last year, and a cash bar. Bring your wallet and plan to have a wonderful evening.
