St. James Church is a community. Our lives are enriched whenever we gather together for fellowship, fun, support, or prayer. We encourage all of our members to engage in the life of the parish. Listed below are some of our offerings. The St. James youth have spent two years working and saving for a Pilgrimage to Rome. Take a look at some of the "work" they did. Every Wednesday, we gather for Wonderful Wednesdays, for a light supper, followed by a wide variety of programs. Classes, rehearsals, and support groups are offered for all ages. Supper begins at 5:45 p.m. This is a wonderful way to make new friends and participate in a wide variety of activities. Donations for supper are appreciated. A variety of support groups are offered weekly at St. James. These groups are offered for those facing cancer, deaths of loved ones, and divorce. Check the St. James Calendar for meeting times. One of the many small groups at St. James' Church is the cancer support group. This group organized the end of 2005 and was officially chartered by Victory in the Valley on March 1, 2006. By vote we named ourselves "Footprints at St. James." We meet in the Rector's office on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. for one hour. We open with a healing prayer and close with a more personal prayer. We have cancer supporters as well as patients, and we include both genders. If time permits,we do some reading together. We just finished the book "Cancer with God," and are preparing to begin "Faith, Hope and Cancer." We are very inclusive and not all in our group attend St James' Church. If you or someone you know would benefit from this type support, all are welcome. For more information, contact Beverly Calvert.
All women who are members of St. James are considered members of Episcopal Church Women and are invited to participate in the activities that the group offers. The group gathers on the second Wednesday of each month for lunch and a program. Other activities include supporting the annual Olde English Tea and the Festival of Saints. For more information, contact Beth Criss. Friends for Dinner is an every-other-month event that happens in people's homes. It is exactly what it says -- friends for dinner. Dinner takes place at parishioners homes and they provide the main course for the evening. Everyone else in the parish is invited to bring a side dish and join in on the fellowship. This is an excellent way to get to know others in the parish. Please be kind and RSVP to the host. Hosts will be posted on the News page of the web site, and in the weekly Tower. Interested in hosting a Friends for Dinner, contact Allison Brookins. Chick Flick Sunday -- A shout out to all you movie-loving ladies who secretly want to see those "chick flicks" and can't find anyone to go with you. On the last Sunday of every month a group of "chicks" (we don't discriminate-although no men have joined the group yet) go see a movie they can't drag their significant others to. I pick the movie; the location and time vary from month to month. If you would like to be on the email list, please email (Nancy Ringer) at Nringer0923@yahoo.com. You'll receive notification the Friday before with all the details. See you at the movies! Breakfast Club meets on the first Thursday of each month at Piccadilly Market and Grill, 7728 E. Central, 8:30 a.m. Anyone is welcomed to attend. For more information, contact Everett Thompson at 634-1586. Junior Daughters of the King The Junior Daughters of the King is an order for girls 8 to 18 years old, and its mission is to spread Christ’s Kingdom and strengthen the spiritual life of the church through prayer and service. Anyone interested in becoming a Junior Daughter should contact Kelly Harper. Other fellowship groups include the Coffee Hour Celebrations, Men's Prayer Group, and the Order of the Daughters of the King. The Guild Hall Players is a faith-based community theatre hosted by St. James. Open to all theatre performers and crafts-people in the Wichita area, the Guild Hall Players mission is to present plays and musicals which challenge the artists and the audience to consider issues of faith and reason. Be sure to visit our Parish Photo Gallery.
